Weary Wednesday

It is only Wednesday, and already I am tired! However, I don’t have to begin this day with a weary heart and neither do you.

I can’t think of anyone else in the Bible, who had a better understanding of weariness than King David.  After fighting for his life against Saul for years, David found himself king over Israel, only to be faced with the job of more fighting, first a civil war to unite the kingdom, and then the continuing battles against the enemies of Israel to protect and enlarge the kingdom.  Can you imagine how tired he must have been?  He probably felt like everyday was Wednesday!  Yet, David didn’t despair because he knew where his strength came from. He proclaimed, “You have raised a banner for whoever fears you- a rally point in the face of attack” (Psalm 60:4).

Today, may we also turn our symbolic rally caps around, take a deep breath, smile, and push forward through our fears, our struggles, and our weariness with a renewed confidence and energy, knowing that we fight under the banner of the Almighty!  In His strength and “With God’s help, we will do mighty things, for he will trample down our foes” (Psalm 60:12).
